Perplexity has launched Teammates, AI agents designed to handle ongoing work, after creating about 10,000 for internal use in 30 days, a figure CEO Aravind Srinivas said is 20 times its human headcount.

Users can give an agent a role, goal and permissions. Agents can track work, spot problems and use tools. Multiple Teammates can divide tasks and contact human colleagues through Slack.

A sales agent, for example, can investigate why a customer stopped ordering and prepare a follow-up plan. A software development agent that finds a website bug can pass it to another agent to write a fix.

Each agent has a separate workspace with project memory and task history. Users can check progress, adjust their direction or take over an agent’s work.
