Musk Described Aspirational Optimus Targets of 1 Million and 10 Million Robots
He gave no timeline for reaching either level; Tesla designed its first-generation Fremont line for 1 million robots a year.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk described annual output of 1 million Optimus 3 robots and 10 million Optimus 4 robots as aspirations on July 22, 2026, without giving a timeline for reaching either level.
“I think Optimus will be the biggest product ever,” Musk said. He also described Optimus as Tesla’s hardest product to scale in manufacturing because everything on the robot was new.
Tesla designed its first-generation Fremont line for annual capacity of 1 million robots. That figure describes the line’s design capacity, not its actual output. Initial builds were intended for internal training-data collection and further development of the robot’s functionality.
Tesla began Optimus production on Fremont’s high-volume lines by Oct. 21 and described the first units as “production-quality” bots. The company classified Fremont, California, as in an “Early Ramp” and reported no installed-capacity figure. The Fremont production start followed Musk’s July remarks.
Tesla has not disclosed current Optimus output or a schedule for reaching Musk’s annual production goals.
