Ethereum Delays Hoodi Testnet Fork Over Glamsterdam Invariant Risks
Proposed changes in EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 affect gas costs and state charging; the Ethereum Foundation is asking teams to check eight invariants.

Ethereum core developers postponed Glamsterdam’s Hoodi testnet fork after ChainSecurity identified contract assumptions that may fail under proposed gas changes, with the Ethereum Foundation urging teams to review potential effects.
EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 would change gas costs for some operations and how gas is charged for state. Those adjustments may affect projects that depend on one or more of the eight invariants.
The Ethereum Foundation is working with audit firms and conducting an internal review. It has urged contract developers and auditors to check whether their projects rely on any of the invariants, while noting that the review cannot cover every project’s onchain and offchain code.
The Foundation created a GitHub repository with explanations and examples of the invariants, along with prompts for teams to assess potential effects and possible specification changes.
The Hoodi testnet fork remains on hold until the issues are addressed.
