Protesters Enter Microsoft-Leased Data Center Site in Amsterdam
About 100 demonstrators joined a campaign spanning 15 European countries that called for a pause in large-scale data center construction.

About 100 protesters entered a data center construction site in Amsterdam on Friday, Nov. 6, joining a campaign across 15 European countries calling for a pause in large-scale data center construction.
The site is in the city’s Sloterdijk/Westpoort area. Pure Data Centers Group is developing the facility, which Microsoft leases in full. Plans call for three buildings, each 85 meters tall, with a combined power capacity of 78 megawatts.
Protesters tried to push through police lines. Riot units were deployed to enforce a mayoral ban on the demonstration.
The site was also occupied during a protest in June, which halted work for much of the day.
