The system records environmental attributes tied to sustainable aviation fuel as transferable tokens with CORSIA-aligned metadata.

The Cardano Foundation says Petrobras has begun using Cardano to track sustainable aviation fuel claims, a shift from project development intended to prevent duplicate emissions claims.

Digital tokens represent the fuel’s environmental attributes and are designed to stay linked to the SAF through production, shipment and use. That tracking is intended to lower the risk that separate companies claim the same emissions benefit.

CORSIA-aligned data fields accompany each token. The records can be issued, transferred, queried or retired. Cardano serves as the blockchain layer for these records.

Petrobras and the Cardano Foundation had been developing the system with PUC-Rio University’s Ledger Labs, as outlined in the project’s earlier coverage. The Foundation’s update describes a move from development to use.
