SpaceX Orders 6,000 Racks for Space Data Center, Plans 1-GW Deployment

The racks are dedicated to the space data center, while the 1-gigawatt deployment remains a plan.

SpaceX has ordered 6,000 racks dedicated to a space data center and plans to send 1 gigawatt into space.

The order gives the project a stated hardware count and year, while 1 GW is the scale of the planned space deployment. Both details describe future steps: the claim presents an order for 2027 and a plan to launch, rather than a completed orbital data center.

That ties the hardware order directly to the orbital project, while the 1-GW figure sets out a separate deployment target. Together, the two details provide a concrete measure of the planned buildout: an equipment count alongside its stated launch scale. The proposed facility is described as a space data center, linking the racks and launch target to the same buildout.

The order marks a defined step in the project’s development and puts a specific number behind the larger AI infrastructure plan. SpaceX’s 1-GW goal remains a plan, and 2027 is the timing attached to the rack order.
