Dunamu Rumored to Launch New Blockchain “GIWA” Amid UDC 2025

Dunamu Rumored to Launch New Blockchain “GIWA” Amid UDC 2025.

Dunamu, the parent company of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, has reportedly filed several trademark applications for a new blockchain project named GIWA. The filings, which surfaced online, feature stylized lettering alongside a possible project logo, fueling speculation within the crypto community.

The rumors gained traction on X (formerly Twitter) after one attendee of the Upbit Developer Conference (UDC) claimed the initiative would introduce an independent blockchain network. Since then, social media posts have spread the story widely, though Dunamu and Upbit have yet to issue official confirmation.

Adding to the buzz, a website connected to the name GIWA has gone live. The page displays a countdown clock labeled “Coming soon,” set to end as UDC 2025 kicks off in Seoul on September 9. Many observers believe this timing signals a formal reveal of the network during the event.

If true, GIWA would follow a growing trend among major crypto exchanges creating proprietary blockchain ecosystems. Similar moves include Coinbase’s layer-2 Base, OKX’s OKChain, and Binance’s BNB Chain, which initially launched as BSC. These networks aim to expand utility, strengthen user engagement, and generate new revenue streams within their platforms.

The timing also comes as the blockchain sector witnesses new initiatives from beyond traditional crypto players. Payments giant Stripe and venture firm Paradigm recently introduced Tempo, a blockchain designed for high-speed stablecoin payments, backed by major partners like Anthropic, OpenAI, Revolut, and Deutsche Bank.

While anticipation builds, the lack of official statements means details about GIWA’s features, ecosystem, and potential use cases remain speculative. However, the convergence of trademarks, a live website, and UDC’s schedule suggests an imminent announcement.

At the time of writing, Dunamu and Upbit have not responded to requests for comment.
