Coinbase is expanding its presence in digital asset management with the launch of a new credit fund designed to tap into the growing stablecoin market. The Coinbase Stablecoin Credit Strategy (CUSHY) is aimed at institutional investors seeking yield opportunities through crypto-based lending tied to stablecoins, a rapidly growing segment of the blockchain economy.
The fund introduces a tokenized share class, allowing investors to gain onchain access via Superstate’s FundOS platform. This infrastructure enables traditional investment products to exist alongside blockchain-based assets without requiring custom token development. CUSHY will be accessible across multiple major blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, and Base, Coinbase’s own Ethereum-based chain.
Stablecoins have become a core pillar of the crypto ecosystem, serving as a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi). Their adoption has accelerated significantly, with total supply doubling to around $300 billion over the past two years. Monthly transaction volumes have also surged, reaching approximately $1.2 trillion as more financial activity shifts to blockchain rails.
By launching this fund, Coinbase is positioning itself at the intersection of traditional credit markets and digital finance innovation. The strategy focuses on generating returns through lending activities backed by digital assets, offering institutions a familiar credit framework enhanced by blockchain efficiency.
The move also reflects a broader trend of fund tokenization among major asset managers. Instead of building isolated blockchain solutions, firms are increasingly leveraging shared platforms like FundOS to streamline distribution and expand investor access. This approach is already gaining traction, with large players such as Invesco adopting similar infrastructure to bring investment products onchain.
Superstate expects more asset managers to follow, signaling growing momentum in tokenized finance. As blockchain adoption continues to rise, initiatives like CUSHY highlight how traditional financial products are evolving to meet demand for transparency, efficiency, and global accessibility in the digital asset space.
