Coinbase-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Base has successfully resumed block production after experiencing a disruption that paused blockchain activity for nearly two hours on Thursday. The incident temporarily prevented transaction processing across one of Ethereum's largest layer-2 scaling networks, raising concerns among users and developers relying on the platform.

The Base development team confirmed that the network is once again operating normally. According to its latest update, internal nodes have synchronized correctly, and engineers continue to investigate the underlying cause of the outage. As part of the recovery process, ecosystem node operators have been advised to restart their Base nodes to ensure proper synchronization with the network.

The first public alert regarding the issue was posted at 16:03 UTC, when the team announced that Base mainnet block production had become "unhealthy." Less than an hour later, at 16:52 UTC, developers reported that they had identified the problem and were implementing multiple remediation measures to restore network functionality.

Although operations have resumed, Base has not yet disclosed the exact reason behind the disruption. It remains unclear whether the incident resulted from a software bug, an invalid block, or another consensus-related issue affecting the blockchain. The investigation is still ongoing, and additional technical details are expected once the team completes its analysis.

This marks another notable outage for the Base network, following a previous service interruption in August 2025. As one of the leading Ethereum layer-2 solutions designed to improve scalability, reduce transaction costs, and increase network efficiency, Base plays an important role within the broader Ethereum ecosystem. Any downtime can temporarily affect decentralized applications (dApps), developers, and users who depend on the network for seamless transactions.

The Base team stated that it will continue monitoring network stability while working to determine the root cause of the outage. Further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses, providing greater transparency into the incident and any preventive measures that may be implemented to improve the blockchain's long-term reliability.
