Elon Musk said SpaceX could eventually reach a $1 quadrillion valuation and placed the likelihood of a merger with Tesla before 2028 at 65%, reviving attention on the relationship between the two companies.

SpaceX was valued at about $2.15 trillion following its 2026 initial public offering. A $1 quadrillion valuation would be a substantial increase from that level.

Market odds for a Tesla-SpaceX merger by Jan. 1, 2028, stood at 59.5%. Contracts for a merger by July 1, 2027, showed 45.5% odds, while the Dec. 31 contract showed 14.5%.

The companies have not announced a merger agreement. Musk has previously discussed cooperation between Tesla and SpaceX, including Terafab, a planned artificial intelligence chip manufacturing facility in Texas.

The merger speculation centers on whether the companies could combine or deepen their existing collaboration. Their current plans include work on the Texas facility, but neither company has announced a completed transaction or formal merger process.
