Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said OpenAI’s $50 billion in annualized revenue as of September points to a viable business, while warning that access to funding could constrain the growth of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The revenue figure offers a measure of OpenAI’s business scale as the company and its partners pursue large investments in computing capacity. Tan also raised questions about the sustainability of AI demand and access to financing.

Broadcom and OpenAI announced a partnership in October 2025 to design, develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of custom AI accelerators. OpenAI is responsible for the accelerator designs, while Broadcom is managing systems and networking deployment.

The first racks are expected to come online in the second half of 2026, with the broader deployment planned for completion by the end of 2029.

Broadcom is also exploring more than $50 billion in debt financing for OpenAI chips. Apollo and Blackstone are among the potential lenders in discussions tied to OpenAI’s procurement of custom chips developed through the partnership.
