A reported timetable for a possible SpaceX-Tesla combination pairs an announcement target in the first half of 2027 with a goal of closing during President Donald Trump’s administration, while the companies’ committees have yet to agree on terms.

At SpaceX’s Oct. 20 earnings webcast, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, said both companies had formed committees of independent directors at shareholders’ request. “At this point, the special committees have not reached agreement on the terms of any transaction,” Musk said. He added that a deal was not guaranteed.

Musk described the approval bar as requiring support equal to half of Tesla’s shares, rather than half of the votes cast. He called that a high hurdle. Musk said he supported combining the companies, citing potential cooperation in AI software, chip design, robotics and connectivity.

The reported timeline sets no specific closing date. The Oct. 20 SpaceX and Oct. 21 Tesla filings covered quarterly results and exhibits but did not disclose transaction terms. TokenPost previously covered the reported 2027 timeline.
