Evernorth CEO Says XRP Has an Important Role in On-Chain Finance
Asheesh Birla described Bitcoin as limited for on-chain activity and said Evernorth plans to allocate 473 million XRP gradually across lending and on-chain strategies.

Evernorth Holdings Inc. CEO Asheesh Birla said the company chose XRP as the foundation of its digital-asset treasury, describing Bitcoin as limited for on-chain activity and XRP as important to on-chain finance.
In a podcast interview, Birla said Bitcoin can be moved or held but offers little activity on blockchain networks. “With BTC, you can move, you can hold, but you can’t really do much on-chain,” he said.
Birla said financial markets are shifting toward on-chain activity, prompting institutions to tokenize assets and assess blockchain-based trading for global finance. He said institutions are evaluating whether the technology can make that activity more secure and efficient. Birla also said Bitcoin helped establish that digital assets can carry value, while XRP has a role in the changing financial system.
He described Bitcoin-focused treasury strategies as largely centered on buying and holding the asset. Evernorth plans to seek risk-adjusted yield from its XRP holdings through traditional finance strategies and on-chain networks.
Birla expects lending, decentralized finance applications and vaults on the XRP Ledger to attract institutional capital and expand XRP liquidity. Evernorth holds 473 million XRP and plans to allocate the tokens gradually to institutional lending and on-chain earning opportunities, as part of its previously outlined XRP deployment strategy.
