Anthropic Reaffirms Claude Ad Ban in Letter Tied to Public IPO Filing

The company says ad revenue targets could pressure Claude to favor user engagement over helpful answers. Its filing also outlines how safety measures may slow enterprise adoption and revenue growth.

Anthropic renewed its pledge to keep advertising out of Claude conversations in a letter accompanying its public IPO filing Monday, Oct. 26, putting the chatbot’s business model before prospective investors. The public filing announcement followed the company’s earlier confidential registration filing.

Anthropic says ad revenue targets could push Claude to optimize for user engagement rather than helpful answers. The company presents its ad-free policy as an example of putting its stated values ahead of profit.

The letter also describes safety choices involving Claude Mythos Preview and Claude Fable 5. Anthropic initially made Mythos Preview available to selected organizations for cybersecurity work, then released Fable 5 more broadly with safeguards. The company says added safeguards delayed the release and cost it revenue and market share.

The filing describes a separate, forward-looking risk: delays in releasing models or limits on initial access could slow enterprise adoption and revenue growth. It does not specify a time frame for that potential effect.
