The Trump administration is weighing up to $5 billion in financing for Constellation Energy to upgrade nuclear facilities in Illinois, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
The U.S. Energy Department described a conditional loan commitment as support for the projects. It projects the work could add nearly 1.1 gigawatts of electricity supply, strengthen the grid and lower costs.
An announcement on the financing was scheduled for Oct. 27 at an Illinois nuclear plant that will supply Google. Google has been pursuing a multiyear nuclear power agreement with Constellation.
