X Ticker Becomes Available as SpaceX-Tesla Merger Review Continues
The symbol adds a possible branding angle to the discussions, but neither company has announced plans to use it. Independent director committees are reviewing the proposal without agreed transaction terms.

Availability of the X ticker has brought a branding question into focus as SpaceX and Tesla examine a possible combination, but it does not show that either company intends to adopt the symbol. Elon Musk, CEO of both companies, owns the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Musk has voiced support for a potential merger. Independent director committees at Tesla and SpaceX are reviewing the proposal separately, and no transaction terms have been agreed. Any deal would also need shareholder approval.
“Some people out there assume that a SpaceX and Tesla merger is a certainty, and I think that would be overstating it,” Musk said.
A previously published merger timeline places a possible agreement in 2027. That target is a milestone for reaching an agreement, not confirmation that the companies will complete a merger.
