Avolon Finalizes Largest 140-Jet 737 MAX Order by a Lessor

The agreement lifts Avolon’s unfilled 737 MAX orders above 240. Firm lessor orders for the 737-10 passed 230 in 2026 as of Nov. 4, five times the model’s year-end 2025 backlog.

Boeing and Avolon announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, that Avolon finalized an order for 140 Boeing 737-10 jets, the largest 737 MAX order placed by a lessor, lifting Avolon’s unfilled family orders above 240.

The agreement identifies all 140 jets as 737-10s, Boeing’s largest 737 MAX model. Avolon’s Oct. 9 announcement described a commitment for 140 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft but did not identify the variants.

The October package also included 110 Airbus aircraft — 75 from the A320neo family and 35 from the A330neo family — along with options for 100 more planes.

As of Nov. 4, lessors had placed firm orders for more than 230 737-10s in 2026. That total is five times the lessor backlog for the model at the end of 2025.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified the 737 MAX 10 on Oct. 20, issuing an amended type certificate and an updated Production Limitation Record that approved production and carrier deliveries. The 737-10 has room for up to 230 passengers and a range of 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 kilometers).

Avolon CEO Andy Cronin said, “This agreement enhances our ability to support airline growth and fleet renewal well into the next decade.” The announcement did not disclose a purchase price or delivery schedule.
