The app operator and the affiliate pursuing a Hong Kong exchange license are separate entities. Crypto.com says affected users have been notified and will receive account-closure and withdrawal instructions.

Crypto.com will stop providing its consumer app in Hong Kong on Feb. 1, 2027, while a separate affiliate continues pursuing approval for an institutional exchange.

Affected users have received notice and will get directions for closing accounts and withdrawing funds, the company said. The date sets the start of the previously announced Hong Kong winddown.

Foris DAX MT Limited operates the consumer app. Foris DAX HK Limited filed the exchange license application on Feb. 9, 2024, and the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission lists it as deemed-to-be-licensed. That status does not amount to formal approval, which the company has not received.

Crypto.com said it will continue seeking approval for the institutional exchange. The company cited regulatory changes in notices to users and described the app closure as part of efforts to optimize global operations and focus resources on opportunities it considers sustainable over the long term.
