Hunter Biden calls crypto apolitical, urges education to address Democratic opposition
Hunter Biden urged crypto education for Democrats and defended the laptop token’s launch, liquidity arrangements and prediction-market charity structure.

Cryptocurrency should be judged by its potential uses rather than its political associations or the misconduct of individual participants, Hunter Biden argued, calling for greater education to address Democratic opposition.
In an interview shared on CoinDesk’s X account on November 4, Biden described cryptocurrency as a tool capable of supporting constructive work or causing harm. He said the community was apolitical when he first became interested in it.
Biden claimed that 90% of Democrats who had publicly expressed views on cryptocurrency lacked an understanding of it. He argued that participants in the industry should explain its potential benefits, as they would those of any other financial tool.
He attributed Democratic hostility partly to the industry’s political support and Donald Trump’s personal involvement in crypto businesses. While expressing respect for Senator Warren’s intelligence and other policy ideas, Biden said many Democrats had reacted reflexively to the industry’s political affiliations.
Biden also accused established banks of attacking cryptocurrency without addressing their own shortcomings or the exclusion caused by their monopolies. He rejected the view that fiat currency represents the only possible future for money.
He traced his interest in cryptocurrency to studying Bitcoin and the Internet of Money, alongside work with the UN World Food Program exploring digital money transactions for refugees. He described his laptop token project as an effort to attract and sustain attention while combining commercial goals with charitable benefits.
Biden blamed the token’s early price volatility on insufficient liquidity supplied by its principal market maker. Citing an investigation by Groom Lake, he said the firm had more than $500,000 in cash capital but initially deployed only $5,000 and fewer than 30,000 tokens. That left a $6 purchase capable of raising the token’s market capitalization by 5%, he said, describing the resulting $381 billion valuation as an illusion that did not reflect actual trading value.
Biden accepted responsibility for the launch while saying the market maker also bore substantial responsibility. He said no tokens had moved from the team’s 30% allocation and that the holdings could be checked on the blockchain.
The token’s design includes prediction markets whose outcomes can trigger token burns or charitable donations, Biden said. He outlined allocations of 20% for airdrops and another 30% for prediction markets, with a minimum of 5% dedicated to charity. He highlighted organizations supporting addiction recovery and argued that a money-making venture could also benefit its community.
