Zcash Rally Raises Bitcoin Correction Risk. Source: Image by Steve Buissinne from Pixabay

Zcash’s rapid price surge is raising concerns among crypto analysts that Bitcoin could face renewed selling pressure, as signs of overheating emerge across the privacy coin’s derivatives market.

The warning comes after Zcash jumped roughly 70% within days, supported by retail demand and excitement surrounding spot ETFs. However, historical market patterns suggest unusually strong ZEC rallies during periods of Bitcoin consolidation have sometimes appeared before broader cryptocurrency market corrections.

CryptoQuant data shows its Zcash risk indicator has moved into extreme territory. Bitcoin, meanwhile, remains within a broad $60,000-$80,000 range after retreating from previous highs, leaving traders watching for signs of weakening demand.

CryptoQuant analyst Maartun said Zcash’s sharp rally makes him more concerned about Bitcoin than optimistic about ZEC. Previous spikes in the indicator have been associated with significant Bitcoin sell-offs, making the latest move a potential warning signal for BTC investors.

Derivatives data also points to growing risk. According to CoinGlass, Zcash spot trading volume dropped 24.97% over the past 24 hours, while derivatives volume declined 24.16%. ZEC has since corrected to around $779.38 as enthusiasm surrounding its ETF appears increasingly reflected in the price.

Selling activity in Zcash futures surged 101.68% over a four-hour period. Meanwhile, approximately $1.53 billion in borrowed capital remains tied to ZEC margin positions. That represents more than 11% of Zcash’s $13.13 billion market capitalization, increasing the potential impact of forced liquidations.

Galaxy Digital research head Alex Thorn has also questioned the sustainability of Zcash’s rally, criticizing speculation based on its reputation as a privacy-focused alternative to Bitcoin. He argued that UTXO-based networks such as Bitcoin offer important privacy advantages compared with account-based blockchain architectures.

A wave of Zcash liquidations could have implications beyond ZEC. If leveraged positions unwind rapidly, liquidity could leave other cryptocurrency markets as traders reduce risk.

With Bitcoin already showing limited buying momentum inside its current range, heightened derivatives volatility could increase the risk of a BTC correction and push crypto investors toward a broader risk-off stance.
