The 30-year U.S. Treasury yield climbed above 5.5% on Sept. 25, reaching its highest level since 2004 as elevated inflation expectations kept pressure on financial markets.

One-year inflation expectations remained at 4.6% in September, unchanged from the previous reading. The University of Michigan’s final consumer sentiment index came in at 48.1, compared with a 47.6 forecast and a preliminary reading of 47.8.

The latest figures add to evidence of persistent inflation concerns among U.S. consumers.
