30-Year Treasury Auction Yield Hits Highest Level Since August 2000

The Treasury sold $22 billion in 30-year bonds at a 5.618% high yield, while indirect bidder demand fell from September’s auction.

The U.S. Treasury’s latest 30-year bond sale produced a 5.618% high yield, the highest for the maturity since August 2000 and above September’s 5.308% result.

The $22 billion auction priced just after 1 p.m. ET. The bid-to-cover ratio was 2.542, down from 2.612 at the previous auction but above the recent average of 2.411.

Indirect bidders received 72.3% of the securities, compared with 79.5% in September and a recent average of 69.1%. Direct bidders took 20.9%, up from 18.3% last month and slightly above the recent average of 20.6%.

Primary dealers received 6.8% of the offering, compared with 2.2% in September, which was a record low.

The result followed a three-year Treasury auction that produced a 4.932% high yield.
