Long global semiconductor positions remained the market’s most crowded trade in October, even as institutional conviction weakened from its summer peak.

The survey covered 161 institutional managers controlling $453 billion. Its findings indicate that the trade still held the strongest concentration of investor positioning among the areas measured.

The reduced intensity of the consensus marks a shift from the summer, when confidence in long semiconductor positions was stronger. The trade nevertheless remained the leading crowded position in the October results.

Semiconductors and servers are among the computing equipment used to build artificial-intelligence infrastructure. Artificial-intelligence demand has helped accelerate global trade, with AI-related trade expanding faster than overall trade from 2023 through 2025.

The products supporting that expansion include semiconductors, servers and other computing equipment used in data-center and AI infrastructure. The survey provides a snapshot of how institutional managers were positioned in October as demand for those technologies continued to shape global trade.
