A U.S. survey published in 2026 found men outnumbered women roughly two to one among current crypto owners, while a separate 2024 global estimate put women at 39% of owners. The findings cover different populations and use different methods, so they do not establish a shift in the global gender split.

The global estimate put the number of crypto owners at 562 million, equal to 6.8% of the world’s population. Women made up 39% of those owners and men 61%. Those shares describe the gender makeup of the estimated owner population; they do not measure women’s share of token supply, holdings by value or trading activity. A previous global crypto-owner estimate also put the total at 562 million.

The estimate combined country-weighted measures, on-chain indicators, outside research and survey data. Its demographic research included a survey of seven thousand people across seven countries in 2023. This approach differs from the defined survey samples used for the other figures.

A separate online survey of six thousand adults in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Singapore and Turkey ran from May 23 to June 28, 2024. Women accounted for 31% of crypto owners in its findings, compared with 42% in the survey’s 2022 results. The reported global averages generally covered four markets: the United States, United Kingdom, France and Singapore.

The U.S. survey included 992 adults: 504 women and 488 men. Of those respondents, 293 reported current crypto ownership, and ownership was self-reported. Within that group of owners, men outnumbered women by roughly two to one.

The figures are not directly comparable: one is a modeled global estimate, while the others come from surveys of defined samples. Their differences alone cannot show whether women’s share of crypto owners has risen or fallen worldwide.
