U.S. housing starts and building permits for September are scheduled for release Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET (12:30 UTC), putting construction data on the market calendar before the Federal Reserve’s Oct. 27–28 meeting.

Housing starts ran at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.275 million units in August. That was down 2.6% from July and 1.2% from August 2025.

Housing starts measure the beginning of construction on single-family and multifamily homes. Tuesday’s release will provide the September reading alongside building permits.

The report falls during a week of U.S. economic data and corporate earnings. Fed officials are in their premeeting quiet period ahead of the Oct. 27–28 meeting.
