Nasdaq-100 Rises About 0.9% as Semiconductor Index Falls 3.09%
Amazon jumped 7.4% and Apple closed at a record as five major technology companies added more than $750 billion in market value.

The Nasdaq-100 rose about 0.9% on Nov. 4 while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 3.09%, splitting the session between gains for major technology platforms and losses for chipmakers.
The semiconductor index closed at 10,268.65. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) and iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) each lost about 3%, as weakness extended across chip stocks.
Amazon shares rose 7.4%, reaching their highest level in three months. Apple gained nearly 7% and set a record closing price. Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta rose between 2% and 6.3%.
Together, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta added more than $750 billion in market value after the U.S. midterm election results. The gains came as Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron weighed on the semiconductor index.
The split followed a separate Nasdaq-100 and chip-index rebound in which the Nasdaq-100 rose 1.2% and the S&P 500 gained about 0.4%, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index ended an eight-session losing streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished slightly lower in that session. Amazon rose 5%, and SanDisk gained 5.5%.
Semiconductor stocks had also posted record quarterly gains earlier in 2026 amid enthusiasm for AI buildouts. The Nov. 4 decline marked a weaker session for chip shares after that earlier strength, while several large technology platforms advanced.
