He cited payments, investment access and on- and off-ramps as gaps. Evernorth plans to accumulate and deploy from its 473 million XRP treasury with four partners starting in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz said Wednesday that the XRP Ledger needs stronger ties to ordinary financial activity, including payments, investment access and connections to existing systems, to broaden its use.

“We’re going to have to be able to solve problems that ordinary people actually have,” Schwartz said in an interview at Evernorth Holdings Inc.’s Nasdaq closing-bell event Wednesday, Oct. 14. He also pointed to on- and off-ramps and other connections as missing pieces. Schwartz is an original XRP Ledger architect.

Evernorth, a Nasdaq-listed XRP treasury company, plans to both accumulate XRP and deploy from its 473 million XRP treasury through institutional strategies with Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo. The effort is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The company plans to phase in on-chain strategies as validators activate XRP Ledger lending and credit features and those features are proven in production. The approach also involves the XRP Ledger lending plan.
