Justin Sun said demand for U.S. government debt may depend on whether the country retains global influence in technology and military affairs, a question he framed as central to the market’s ability to absorb new Treasury issuance.

Sun, founder of TRON, made the argument in a recent discussion with Jin Ming. He said the central issue is whether the U.S. can maintain its global technological and military leadership to sustain Treasury demand, since it can issue new debt to repay maturing obligations. The key question, he said, is whether investors will keep buying the new securities.

Sun pointed to chips, the storage industry chain and AI technology as areas where U.S. leadership could help sustain global demand for Treasuries as artificial intelligence grows in importance.

He also connected rising Treasury yields with competition for investment from AI and other equities. When investors favor those assets, he said, Treasuries may need to offer higher returns to attract funds. Sun said Treasuries would continue to find buyers if the U.S. maintains its lead in AI.
