David Schwartz, Ripple’s former chief technology officer, argued in an interview that aired Saturday that banks may find the XRP Ledger better suited than Ethereum or Solana for some payment and on-chain finance uses.

He cited the network’s speed, low transaction costs and institutional adoption. XRP Ledger transactions take three to five seconds, and financial institutions are adopting the network for payment settlements and decentralized finance applications.

Those speed, cost and adoption claims concern the XRP Ledger, the network; XRP is the digital asset. Schwartz framed his argument around banking, cross-border transfers and international payments, while acknowledging that Ethereum and Solana each have distinct strengths.

Schwartz has previously argued that broader use of the XRP Ledger depends on stronger connections to ordinary financial activity, including payments and existing systems. He discussed connecting the XRP Ledger to everyday financial services in an earlier interview.
