Lowry Says Holding Bitcoin (BTC) Can Be a Disservice to Shareholders
Samara sells BTC to meet capital calls across 20+ venture funds, regardless of price. Lowry said Strategy is an exception to the market’s rejection of pure Bitcoin treasury plays.

Samara Asset Group CEO Patrick Lowry said companies that hold Bitcoin (BTC) as a standalone treasury asset can do shareholders a disservice, arguing Samara instead uses BTC to meet venture fund commitments.
Samara holds BTC against commitments to 20+ venture funds. When a fund requests its committed capital, the company converts BTC to cash, Lowry said, regardless of the market price.
Lowry criticized the “digital gold” framing, arguing it presents Bitcoin as an investment rather than money. He also said the market has turned away from companies built solely to hold Bitcoin, with Strategy as the exception.
His view differs from JAN3 CEO Samson Mow, who has argued that Strategy and other Bitcoin treasury firms are undervalued and pointed to their continued BTC buying across market conditions.
