Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said XRP is efficient in some use cases but may not suit others. For some customer transactions, Ripple may use fiat currency or its dollar-backed stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD), instead of XRP.

The comments distinguish XRP’s suitability for particular use cases from Ripple’s choice of payment method for an individual transaction. XRP is the native cryptocurrency of the XRP Ledger. Ripple offers RLUSD through Ripple Payments in certain jurisdictions.

Garlinghouse previously said Ripple would not abandon XRP and described RLUSD as complementary to it. The latest remarks add a use-case qualification to his earlier comments on the two assets.
