President Donald Trump and his family have reportedly reduced their stake in the parent company behind World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a crypto firm issuing the USD1 stablecoin, just as the U.S. Senate passed a major bipartisan bill regulating stablecoins. Legal disclosures show that DT Marks DEFI LLC, an entity affiliated with Trump and family members, now holds 40% of the WLFI holding company, down from 60%.

The Senate’s stablecoin legislation—now headed to the House—was briefly delayed amid concerns about Trump’s direct involvement in crypto businesses that would be affected by the regulation. Lawmakers including Senators Elizabeth Warren, Richard Blumenthal, and Chris Murphy raised ethical questions about a sitting president influencing rules that could benefit his private ventures.

While Trump’s team insists his crypto dealings are transparent, full details of the family's ownership in WLFI remain unclear. The company has not publicly clarified which Trump family members have equity or operational roles. If the new regulations pass, WLFI’s USD1 stablecoin could gain legitimacy—provided it complies with strict reserve and oversight requirements.

Trump’s crypto activity has grown rapidly. He’s hosted private events for investors in his own memecoin, sold multiple NFT collections, and recently backed a $2.5 billion bitcoin treasury through his media company. His son Eric Trump is also reportedly involved in a new bitcoin mining venture.

This expansion into digital assets marks a dramatic shift for the former crypto skeptic. As regulatory scrutiny intensifies, Trump’s deepening connections to the crypto world continue to raise both political and financial questions. WLFI and Trump representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
