The CFTC updated its crypto-asset FAQs, opening a compliance path for registered derivatives firms to hold compliant customer investments in tokenized form and use blockchain-based records to meet federal requirements.

The update covers tokenized money-market fund shares and other eligible investments held for customers, allowing firms to treat those assets as they would their traditional forms.

CFTC staff said relevant entities may use blockchain and other distributed-ledger technologies to meet federal recordkeeping requirements.

The updated FAQs address crypto-asset compliance for registered derivatives firms.
