Coinbase can clear eligible U.S. derivatives trades through its own clearing unit after the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) registered Coinbase Clearing LLC, expanding the company’s regulated derivatives infrastructure.

The Sept. 28 registration permits the unit to clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures and swaps. Coinbase can handle clearing for eligible trades directly, without relying on a third-party clearing organization.

The approval does not authorize any specific market or product. It does not cover prediction markets, and the permitted underlying assets and swap categories were not specified in the available registration details.

Coinbase and Nodal Clear announced a planned partnership in June 2025 to offer futures collateralized with USDC. The new registration provides Coinbase with its own clearing capacity for eligible derivatives.
