Blockchain.com has applied for U.S. regulatory approval to offer event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives to retail and institutional customers, expanding its planned presence in American markets.

The company is seeking a designated contract market license from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), which would allow it to operate a futures exchange. It also applied to register as a futures commission merchant, a category covering brokers that handle derivatives transactions.

Blockchain.com already offers prediction markets through a partnership with Polymarket and perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid to some customers outside the United States. The proposed U.S. products would bring event-based contracts and crypto derivatives onto the same platform for American users.

The applications come as more crypto companies seek access to the growing prediction-markets sector. Eleven other companies have filed for designated contract market licenses this year, while the CFTC has approved six new exchanges in 2026.

Blockchain.com co-founder and CEO Peter Smith said the applications are intended to let users manage digital assets, trade derivatives and take positions on real-world events within one regulated U.S. platform.
