Iran Repeats Conditional Seven-Day Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Abbas Araghchi said Tehran conveyed the proposal through Qatar and put the next move in Washington’s hands. He said traffic reached about 60% of its prewar level at one point during a two-week period.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated a conditional seven-day plan to restore normal passage through the Strait of Hormuz, saying Washington now holds the next move after Tehran conveyed the proposal through Qatar.

Araghchi made the remarks Saturday in Baghdad at the 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers. He said Iran was prepared to restore normal maritime passage within seven days if necessary conditions were met.

Araghchi said traffic through the strait reached about 60% of its prewar level at one point during a two-week period. He attributed the disruption to U.S. and Israeli military actions and subsequent U.S. restrictions, saying those steps hindered implementation.

The remarks revisit Iran’s seven-day Hormuz reopening proposal.
