Caroline D. Pham Calls for Clearer Crypto Definitions at Harvard Summit
The former CFTC acting chair also urged consistent investor protections and more transparent agency rulemaking.

Former Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) acting chair Caroline D. Pham called for clearer definitions of securities and products in crypto regulation at a Harvard summit Friday, Oct. 23, while urging consistent investor protections and more transparent agency rulemaking.
Pham delivered the keynote at the Harvard Blockchain & AI Summit. She also discussed market-structure changes tied to tokenized markets and described tokenized volumes as reaching the trillions.
Pham has previously argued that the Securities and Exchange Commission and CFTC can use existing authority to clarify digital-asset rules. At Korea Blockchain Week, she said reviewing the agencies’ mandates could identify a legal basis for digital-asset regulation. Her earlier push for clearer digital-asset rules provides context for the summit remarks.
