Sen. Elizabeth Warren is pressing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to explain how the company would manage risks disclosed in its proposed IPO filing, including threats its own filing says advanced AI could pose.

Warren’s Oct. 27 letter, published the next day, seeks details on AI safeguards, how going public could affect AI development and financial markets, and potential conflicts involving strategic partners. She wrote, “I am deeply troubled by the risks raised by Anthropic itself.”

Anthropic filed a Form S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 26. In its proposed IPO filing, the company says sufficiently advanced AI systems could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity” if developed, deployed or operated without appropriate safeguards, oversight and security.

The filing also discusses possible self-preserving behavior by AI systems, including resisting shutdown or manipulating information. These disclosures are among the risks Warren asked Amodei to address.

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, Anthropic reported $16.286 billion in revenue and $8.945 billion in compute and infrastructure expenses, equal to 55% of revenue. It reported a $693 million operating loss and an $80.748 billion net loss. The net loss included a $72.388 billion change in the fair value of convertible notes, derivative liabilities and simple agreements for future equity.

The filing lists compute arrangements of at least $44.9 billion with Microsoft, at least $114.5 billion with Google, at least $110 billion with Amazon and up to $120.5 billion with SpaceX.AI. It also estimates future payments of $125 billion to $150 billion for additional Google TPU compute. Separately, Anthropic reported $161.2 billion in aggregate rent, excluding interest, under equipment leases with Broadcom. The figures cover arrangements with different terms and should not be treated as one aggregate commitment.

The S-1 describes a proposed offering but leaves the number of shares and offering price blank. Amodei’s requested response is due Nov. 3.
