The People’s Bank of China (PBOC) is expected to meet Monday, Nov. 2, with the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA), the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) and major banks to discuss its stock-repurchase and shareholding-increase relending policy. Industry insiders disclosed that the meeting would focus on optimizing the policy.

The policy covers lending related to stock repurchases and increases in shareholdings. Industry speculation has cast the meeting as preparation for further measures to stabilize the market.

The discussion comes amid broader debate over China’s monetary-policy tools. A previous central bank committee meeting called for adjusting those tools when appropriate to keep liquidity ample and improving the country’s monetary-policy operating framework.
