Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is re-entering the cryptocurrency space by introducing stablecoin payouts for content creators. This move marks a significant shift back toward blockchain-based payments after the company previously abandoned its Libra (later Diem) project due to regulatory challenges in 2022.

The new feature is currently being tested with a limited group of creators in the Philippines and Colombia. Eligible users can connect their crypto wallets and receive earnings in USDC, a popular stablecoin issued by Circle. Payments are processed عبر blockchain networks such as Solana and Polygon, which are known for their speed and low transaction costs. This initiative reflects Meta’s effort to provide faster, borderless payment solutions without relying on traditional banking infrastructure.

To support this rollout, Meta has partnered with Stripe, a global payments company. Stripe will handle crypto-related reporting and compliance, ensuring creators receive proper documentation for tax purposes. According to Stripe, creators using its Link service can seamlessly accept stablecoin payouts, simplifying the overall payment experience.

The introduction of stablecoin payments positions Meta among major tech companies exploring real-world blockchain applications. With over 3 billion users worldwide, the company has the scale to significantly influence the adoption of digital currencies. Stablecoins, which are pegged to fiat currencies like the US dollar, are gaining traction as efficient payment tools due to their price stability and lower fees.

This development also aligns with broader industry trends. Companies like Visa have reported substantial growth in stablecoin transactions, highlighting increasing demand for crypto-based financial solutions. By leveraging blockchain technology, Meta aims to empower creators with faster access to earnings and expand financial inclusion globally.

Meta’s renewed focus on crypto payments signals a strategic pivot, suggesting that stablecoins could play a key role in the future of digital economies and creator monetization.
