Polygon Transfers 100 Million POL to Dead Address, Cuts Economic Supply

The completed transfer represents roughly 1% of POL’s 10 billion-token supply, but may not change the Ethereum contract’s ERC-20 totalSupply() figure.

Polygon transferred 100 million Polygon (POL) tokens to an Ethereum dead address on Sept. 23, permanently reducing the token’s economic supply while leaving the contract’s reported supply figure potentially unchanged.

The transfer represented roughly 1% of POL’s 10 billion-token supply and moved the tokens from Polygon’s fee-collection system. The fee collector’s balance fell by the same amount after the transaction.

Sandeep Nailwal, CEO of Polygon Foundation, said Sept. 23: “BURN COMPLETE: 100 MILLION POL (~1% of POL total supply) IS OFFICIALLY BURNED PERMANENTLY.”

The tokens came from POL accumulated through Polygon’s fee-collection system rather than from a foundation treasury. Under PIP-82, fees tied to eligible agentic-commerce activity can enter a temporary rebate program capped at $1 million, while POL that is not recycled continues toward the burn collector.

The transfer permanently reduced POL’s economic supply, but may not have changed the Ethereum contract’s ERC-20 totalSupply() figure. That distinction matters because a lower supply does not guarantee a higher price; continued demand would be needed for a sustained move above the $0.11-$0.115 range.

The completed action continues TokenPost’s coverage of the same 100 million POL economic-supply burn. No schedule for additional burns has been provided.
