Ethereum Sets Oct. 6 Sepolia Fork for Glamsterdam Upgrade
The testnet deployment will occur at 9:53:36 a.m. ET, while Ethereum’s mainnet rollout remains targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026 without a confirmed date.
Ethereum is entering public-testnet preparation for Glamsterdam, with a Sepolia fork scheduled for Oct. 6, 2026, before a mainnet deployment targeted for the fourth quarter.
The Sepolia activation is set for 9:53:36 a.m. ET (13:53:36 UTC) at epoch 353,024. The same activation point is recorded as Unix timestamp 1,791,294,816.
The event will deploy Glamsterdam on Sepolia, not Ethereum’s mainnet. Mainnet deployment remains targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, with no specific date confirmed.
Glamsterdam combines the planned “Gloas” consensus-layer upgrade with the “Amsterdam” execution-layer upgrade. Its goals include parallelized processing, greater network capacity and measures to limit database growth.
Key components include enshrined proposer-builder separation and Block-Level Access Lists, or BALs, under EIP-7732 and EIP-7928. BALs are designed to make state access within blocks more explicit, which supports parallel processing. Enshrined proposer-builder separation would move more block-building activity into Ethereum’s protocol.
The upgrade’s early public testing began with Platåberget, whose fork was scheduled for Aug. 20. The testing sequence will continue across public networks including Sepolia and Hoodi before any mainnet deployment.
Wallets, indexers and gas estimators that rely on fixed maximum-gas assumptions may require updates as Glamsterdam changes gas-related behavior. The complete scope is tracked in Meta EIP-7773, but that scope may still change before mainnet.
Glamsterdam is a protocol upgrade rather than an asset migration. Ether (ETH) holders will not need to convert or upgrade their holdings after the hard fork.
The Sepolia date replaces an earlier proposal from an Aug. 20 developer record that placed the fork on Sept. 28. The scheduled Oct. 6 testnet deployment is the next defined step toward a possible mainnet release. TokenPost previously covered the approaching Glamsterdam Sepolia milestone.
