OpenAI Launches GPT-6.1 Sol at One-Fifth GPT-6 Astra’s Price
The model improves coding, document understanding and multi-step workflows while reducing factual errors at low reasoning effort.
OpenAI launched GPT-6.1 Sol on Sept. 29 at one-fifth of GPT-6 Astra’s standard input and output token prices, positioning the model as a lower-cost option for coding, computer use and professional work.
GPT-6.1 Sol improves on GPT-6 Sol in programming, debugging, document understanding and executing multi-step workflows. It also performs better on difficult prompts and more reliably follows user intent and safety restrictions.
At low reasoning effort, the share of responses containing a factual error fell to 7.7% from 11.4% with GPT-6 Sol. Across all reasoning settings, GPT-6.1 Sol’s error rate remained within 1.9% of GPT-6 Astra.
The model also failed less often when identifying broken search tools, following explicit restrictions and avoiding unauthorized outcomes. No attempts to bypass the automated safety reviewer were observed.
The launch follows OpenAI’s cancellation of the planned GPT-6.1 Astra release over safety concerns. OpenAI is not launching a GPT-6.1 Astra model.
Access is rolling out through ChatGPT Work and Codex for subscribers on the Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu tiers. It is not yet available in Chat.
