Solana's Alpenglow Activation Window Shifts Earlier on Oct. 21
Epoch 1064 is now expected to begin at about 9:20 a.m. ET (13:20 UTC), 90 minutes earlier than previously estimated.

Solana's Alpenglow upgrade remains planned for Oct. 21, but faster slot production has moved the estimated start of its activation process 90 minutes earlier, changing when the network is expected to enter the upgrade epoch.
Epoch 1064 is now expected to begin at about 9:20 a.m. ET (13:20 UTC), compared with the previous estimate of about 10:50 a.m. ET (14:50 UTC). The estimate may shift again as the network continues producing slots.
The upgrade gate is expected to open when the epoch begins. Solana would then keep using its current consensus system for about 5,000 slots, or roughly 18 minutes, before Alpenglow takes over. The 9:20 a.m. estimate therefore marks the start of the process, not the consensus switch itself.
The Oct. 21 mainnet upgrade targets transaction finality of about 150 milliseconds, down from roughly 12.8 seconds. Finality is the point at which a transaction can no longer be reversed. Alpenglow changes how validators agree on blocks; application execution and user transaction fee mechanics remain unchanged.
Validators and providers that process Solana block data still need compatible software before activation. The next scheduled step is the opening of epoch 1064 on Oct. 21.
