Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang urged Germany to use artificial intelligence to retain manufacturing knowledge as its workforce ages, presenting the technology as a way to protect a core industrial advantage.

During an Oct. 20 conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin, Huang pointed to the country’s strengths in physical and mechatronic products. He said those strengths rest on technical skills and craftsmanship developed over generations.

Huang warned that aging populations and shrinking workforces across developed economies put accumulated expertise at risk. He urged Germany to capture its industrial knowledge in AI systems and use those systems to pass the knowledge on within the country.

He cast the current shift in industry as a major opportunity for Germany to renew its competitiveness. His remarks focused on using AI to carry forward existing expertise in manufacturing.

Germany announced an industrial AI cloud project with Nvidia in June 2025. The project was planned as infrastructure developed with German industry.
