Qubic has begun returning tokens to verified wallet owners after a theft drained 1,404 wallets, with claims open until May 1, 2027, under a validator-approved recovery plan.

The network’s validators, known as Computors, approved the plan and opened the claims portal. Applicants must identify the affected wallet, provide a new destination address, sign an ownership message and submit supporting evidence. After a claim is approved, a seven-day dispute window must pass before payment.

About 87.1% of the stolen Qubic (QU) tokens were placed in protected on-chain escrow. MEXC, a cryptocurrency exchange, froze an account holding the other 12.9%. Recovery of those tokens depends on the exchange and any law enforcement proceedings.

The theft unfolded from Oct. 17 to Oct. 18, and transaction processing resumed the next day. The flaw involved predictable recovery seeds in wallets created through iPhone and iPad browsers, Safari on Mac computers, and older Qubic iOS apps. It affected wallet creation rather than the blockchain’s transaction rules. Qubic began paying verified owners Tuesday, Oct. 20, after the restart and initial claims process. The portal remains open through May 1, 2027.
