Ethereum Postpones Hoodi Glamsterdam Activation and Gas Limit Increase

The Oct. 26 activation date was withdrawn as developers investigate EIP-8037’s gas accounting. The planned 200 million gas limit applied to Hoodi, not mainnet.

Ethereum developers postponed Glamsterdam’s Hoodi testnet activation, removing the Oct. 26 slot and planned 200 million gas limit increase as they examine a gas-accounting change’s effect on deployed contracts.

The activation had been scheduled alongside the Hoodi limit increase. Ethereum has not set a mainnet date. The earlier Hoodi schedule followed Glamsterdam’s Oct. 6 activation on Sepolia.

Developers are investigating how EIP-8037’s changes to state-creation gas accounting interact with smart contracts already deployed on Ethereum’s mainnet. The postponement leaves the next Hoodi test step without a replacement date.

Mantle announced Oct. 22 that Elysium was coming to Hoodi ahead of Ethereum’s rollout, without naming an activation date. Elysium is designed to keep Mantle’s block derivation, batch submission and cross-chain messaging operating through Ethereum Layer 1 changes. Mantle’s L2 EVM remains on Arsia/Osaka rules, so Elysium does not itself activate Glamsterdam execution rules on Mantle.
