Aztec publicly launched Tierra, its sixth alpha release for a privacy-focused Ethereum layer 2, on Tuesday, Nov. 3, adding a new brand and a lineup of private applications.

The network’s V6 upgrade went live on Oct. 26 after a token-holder vote. Because V5’s rollup contracts could not be changed, Aztec replaced the rollup to address a flaw that could have let the network accept a proof for a transaction it should have rejected. Aztec will keep V5 funded for about 30 days to give users time to migrate.

Aztec said key parts of its proving system underwent formal verification and that it added an AI-based security-testing tool. It puts client-side proof generation at about one second on native hardware, compared with roughly 2.5 seconds for a token transfer on V5.

The apps include the relaunched zk.money payments product; Galactica’s Private Inference, which lets users pay for GPT, Claude and open models from a private balance; and Nemi, a private decentralized exchange that is currently waitlist-only. The lineup also includes Xochi for private intents, the Nulo wallet and Olla for liquid staking.
