Anthropic Shows IPO Investors How Claude Helps Design Chips

Anthropic is showing IPO investors how Claude is being used in AI chip engineering, highlighting work by its 15-person in-house chip team.
Engineers involved estimated that some tasks took less time than they expected from traditional chipmaker processes, using Nvidia and AMD as examples. The comparison is based on estimates of conventional workflows, not measured against the companies’ actual processes.
Anthropic announced its in-house chip effort in August. If the company offers Claude’s design capabilities to other semiconductor companies, it could enter a field where Synopsys and Cadence are projected to generate about $16 billion in annual revenue combined. That figure is the two companies’ combined projected revenue, not a confirmed market size or revenue opportunity for Anthropic.
Shares of Synopsys and Cadence each fell about 4% at one point Tuesday, Nov. 3.
OpenAI has also used its models to help develop its Jalapeño chip and signed a multiyear agreement with Synopsys to develop AI models for chip design.
