AI agents running continuously will need a way to establish accountability and public trust, VeChain co-founder and CEO Sunny Lu said in an interview Wednesday, arguing that blockchain could provide the records behind that system.

“The perfect solution is a blockchain,” Lu said. He outlined a model in which each agent carries a digital passport and a record tracks the reputations of both the agent and its creator. In his view, those records could help make agents’ activity accountable. Smart contracts could settle transactions between agents or between an agent and a person.

Lu discussed VeWorld.ai, an agent-building platform that uses VeChain’s blockchain. He said tools for creating agents could let people without programming skills turn professional expertise, local knowledge or hobbies into services. Lu likened agent-building tools to the app-store era, when independent creators gained a route to reach users and earn revenue.

Lu’s examples included an educational agent for his daughter and another to support his mother’s daily routine and recovery. He also described a virtual employee for an acquaintance’s shop in Milan that could handle purchasing, inventory, sales and operations. The examples span personal assistance and business tasks, alongside the commercial uses Lu described for transactions between agents and people.

Other efforts have focused on agent identity and controls. Mastercard’s Agent Pay Trust Framework combines identity, intent, controls, execution and intelligence. IDTrust’s agent-verification platform, designed to verify agents, devices and people, is listed in IBM Cloud Catalog.
